A little Vacation

Summer went by so quickly and before we knew it fall had come and with it a little time away from the farm. We spend two weeks in Alaska with my parents and my brother. My mom had been planning this trip for years and we were all excited to be able to go on it together as a family. It was a long two weeks away filled with many adventures. We spend a few days in each town/city so we were moving around a lot but we wanted to make sure to see as much as we could while we were there. My favorite part of this trip was seeing Moose and also having wild birds eat out of my hand at the artic circle.
We spent a few days in Denali National Park which was amazing, we got to do some hiking and the scenary was unbelievable. We were there pretty much right at the peak of the fall colors and pictures just don't do justice to how vibrant they were!

As I said one of my favorite things was seeing Moose, we did see a couple while we were in Denali but has a more up close view when we got to Talkeetna. The lodge there had hiking trails around it so in the mornings/evenings Jordan and I would go for walks. We managed to come across a mother moose and her two babies while out on a walk. It was amazing to see them in the wild but holy cow are they big! I guess I didn't realize that they were as big as they are. Below is a picture of one of their footprints next to my shoe for a size comparison.

We had a day kind of to ourselves at one point so to fill the time we went and visited a dog sled kennel. We got to meet all of the dogs, play with the puppies and learn about the different dog sled races and the equipment used. We did not take a dog sled ride as we had one scheduled at another kennel later in our trip. But it was very cool to see the setup they have for the number of dogs they owned.

One of the other things we did that I really enjoyed (though who am I kidding, I enjoyed everything!) was visiting the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Here they have many species of animals that are either there due to injuries or are part of a breeding program. It was very cool to see the porcupines they had up close. We were given a tour by one of their guides who was very knowledgeable about the animals. It is amazing to see places like this where it is as much about education as it as the well being of the animals.

We made many memories on this trip and loved every second of it! Unfortunately when we returned home all of us ended up with the dreaded covid and were sick for a couple of weeks. Extended vacation anyone? Not going to lie, being sick was definitely no vacation but we made the best of it. Thankfully we all recovered well and are back to our usual healthy selves.
