Amidst all of my planning for the spring/summer I have also enrolled in two horse classes being taught by the lovely Michelle Jerry at Heart and Hooves Horsemanship. This will be my first time taking a class like this and also my first working with Michelle, I have had two zoom classes so far this year with her and am loving every minute of it! I am take and Advanced Class that covers everything from basic gaits to getting your horse soften and flex. The other class I am taking with her is her Liberty class. Both of these classes we meet once a month (Jan - March is via zoom due to MN weather) but the rest are in person through October. I am beyond excited to be able to take these classes and so happy that my husband supports my desire to do this.
During our first two sessions Michelle gave us homework to do. One of the homework assignments is to write a letter to our horse. Now me being the procrastinator that I am I have yet to do this. The other assignment is to make a list of 5 goals for your horse and 5 for yourself. Below are my 10 goals.
Five goals for my horse (Lenny)
To enjoy the work we are doing
To be willing to learn and have fun with the process
To be calm and relaxed in the trailer (since it will be a long drive for him)
To remain calm in unfamiliar places (especially since we have not been to Heart and Hooves before)
To trust me to take care of him in any situation
Five goals for myself
Gain confidence
To let go of my fear to ride and become a better partner for my horse
To enjoy the process and celebrate the little tries
To keep motivated and to work on the exercises we are given at home
To strengthen my bond with my horse
To have fun and not be so hard on myself. To not compare myself to others, we are all at different stages
My biggest achievement in 2023 will be:
To be confident and trust my horse
Steps to reach this goal:
Honestly I am not sure what the steps are to reach this goal. I know this year is going to be hard and emotional and rewarding in many ways. I am excited for this journey but also nervous.
